LOOKING FOR SOME ENTERTAINMENT?

Here's one of the few blogs out there actually worth reading: underneaththestairwell
Drew sung for Napalm Hearts, as well as some other fine bands, has written one book worth the publication and has got a few more on the way. Info on his planned publications can be found on his page.

'The Crooked Beat' is certainly worth purchasing if you're a fan of degenerate fiction along the lines of Bukowski, Fante and Celine. Comes highly recommended.
So do yourself a favour, head over to his page and purchase a copy.

Here's some footage from Agitated's release show on the weekend.
Leeches have a 7" coming out anyday soon, and my next release will be a live cassette by The Choke.

AGITATED AND NAPALM HEARTS 7"s NOW AVAILABLE

Both of these are back from the plant and available for order.
http://heltaskeltarecords.bigcartel.com/
$12pp anywhere within Australia
Wholesale get in thouch

HSR:003 Agitated's debut 7 ". Highly influenced by early 80s US hardcore but with an Austarlian edge. These guys listen to a lot of Adolescents and JFA which definately shows on this recording but more broadly this reminds me a lot of the early hardcore that came out of Southern California and even the DC scence in the early 80s. This is immature, aggressive hardcore.

Agitated - Gender Issues by HeltaSkeltaRecords

HSR:002 These guys were around for a while in Melbourne playing their own take on hardcore heavily influenced by UK street punk and oi! Think Negative Approach and Last Resort. With hard hitting vocals and catchy hooks. The Dead Boys cover on here is great and sleazy, adding to the aesthetic.
They took a no bullshit approach to this kind of music as it should be and played some great live shows. This recording was originally released by Stained Circles on cassette but quickly sold out. Four new tracks have been added to the B side here, all from the same session.

SCHOOL'S OUT

Now that the first semester of this year is over and less of my time is consumed by my studies, you might see some more useless ephemera, punk relics posted on here, then again you might not.
Anyway there's a few shows coming up that are worth checking out.

And here's a few clips worth checking out.

Anyone know what happened to these guys? Whether they've got anything new in the works or even if they're still together? Their first couple of cassettes and the 7" were some of the best heard in recent years, it'd be good to know if they've got something more planned.

HSR003 AGITATED - S/T 7"

Napalm Hearts 7" is at the plant right now, so shouldn't be too much longer.
The next release is lined up too, 7" by Perth's Agitated. The recording's done, courtesy of Tom Ware, just waiting on the artwork and a few bit and pieces. Pretty stoked to be putting this one out. Hardcore along the lines of JFA, Adolescents, you know that California sound around '81 when kids started to dig the Germs.
Here's one of their sets from the weekend.

HELTA SKELTA LP

Only about 20 copies of the Helta Skelta LP left and once these are gone that's it, so if you want a copy you had better grab one soon.

Couple of reviews this record has received

Sorry State Records:

Here you go: Debut LP from this killer Australian band that perfectly toes the line between hardcore and garage rock. The vocals are pure hardcore a la Negative Approach or Poison Idea, but the music is a lot catchier... the guitar has just minimal distortion, and the riffs are bouncy and catchy. I can't really think of another band doing this style in the same way... the closest thing might be Texas's Wiccans, but these songs are catchier and even more punk. Speaking of Texas bands, this also reminds me a little of the Video LP, but much more hardcore-oriented and with a fuzzy and nasty HC-style recording. This is an absolutely killer LP, and since it's self-released in Australia and very limited I imagine these won't be easy to come by. Note: all of my copies arrived with a pretty nasty seam split, so if you're a stickler for condition you might not be interested. Seriously, though, this is one of the best LPs that will come through this month.

Mess and Noise:

I'm just going to come out and say it. These Perth guys are one of the best punk bands going around at the moment. They mix just the right amount of gnarly hardcore and punk rock with an emphasis on “rock”. Their self-titled LP comes out fast and frantic and with plenty of gruffness on the opening 'Son of Man'. They cover hometown heroes The Victims ('Disco Junkies'), but make it their own with some slowed down and weirded-out parts. The closing 'I Am Shiva, God of Death' is gold! I imagine they would kill it live. Best punk band Australia has produced in ages.

HSR002 MAPALM HEARTS - URBAN NOISE 7"

Next releaase is locked in, HSR:002 Napalm Hearts - Urban Noise 7"

These guys aren't together anymore but they released a demo back in 2008 that I'm now having pressed. These guys were around for a while in Melbourne playing their own take on hardcore that toed the line between bands like Negative Approach, and UK street punk and oi! With hard hitting vocals and catchy hooks. They took a no bullshit approach to this kind of music as it should be and played some great live shows. The Dead Boys cover on here is sleazy and fucking great adding to the aesthetic. I'm glad I was over that way at the time to catch them and am pretty excited to be re-releasing this.
Just fine tuning the artwork and then it's off to the plant
